2004 addition: friendship santa

I usually start looking for Santas early in the year - July or August. This generally horrifies the non-Santa collector (gearing up to buy Christmas decorations in August? Um, summer? Hello?). But I find that it gives me the time to really think about what kind of additions I want to make to my collection. November is just too late - in some cases, for shipping, since I find a lot of my items online. But also just because it's too tough to choose when confronted with the barrage of new Santas every November. So I make notes in November and return in the summer once my head has cleared from the insanity that is Christmas in the commercial world. ;)

First purchase for the year was in August, and it was a G. DeBrekht Friendship Santa:

These are really quite wonderful and unique, limited edition (2 years) and stunningly painted resin pieces. This particular Santa is also musical and plays "Jolly Old St. Nicholas". Since I didn't (yet) have a Russian-looking Santa, this was my first foray into that style.

I may have to pick up a few other Russian pieces (not necessarily DeBrekht, though I do love this piece) next year. The detail is incredible.
